Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) |
|
SEM

Q1. What is Search Engine Marketing (SEM)?

SEM is a form of Internet Marketing that promotes websites by increasing their visibility in Search Engine results pages (SERPs). SEM has a proven ROI (Return on Investment). SEM methods include Search Engine Optimization (or SEO), paid placement and paid inclusion. PurpleClick Media can help you with paid placements or paid listings.

Q2. How does SEM work?

Clients purchase keywords, which are the words consumers type into the query box on Search Engines such as Yahoo! Google and MSN. Advertisers’ advertisements will appear prominently on Search Engine results pages if the keywords they have purchased match those typed by consumers.

Q3. How will my advertisements appear on Google, Yahoo! or MSN?

Advertisers’ advertisements will either appear on the top or right-hand side of Search Engine results pages.

Q5. What is the difference between Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

SEM includes paid advertisements that guarantee your business is listed at the top of the Search Engine results pages. SEO strives to generate search positions at the head of the natural listings, where searchers are more likely to click. SEO gains positions from contents and links.

Q6. Should I use SEM if I also use SEO services?

SEM is often used to complement SEO. SEM is an easier way to get your website listed without having to alter the structure of your website. Furthermore, SEO is limited as it cannot optimise all keywords (search terms). It is also common for SEO methods to take a few months to take effect.

SEM will be able to guarantee prominent positions within a few working days.

Q7. How long will it take for my SEM campaign to go online?
|
Generally, SEM campaigns go online about 5 business days after they are submitted and paid for. If you request for a SEM campaign proposal from us, we will send you the relevant keywords and costing for your site. Once you approve the proposal and advertisement copy, agree to our Advertiser Terms and Conditions, and make payment, your listings will be online within 5 working days.

Q8. What’s Pay Per Click (PPC) / Cost Per Click (CPC)?

The two terms (PPC and CPC) are sometimes used interchangeably and sometimes as distinct terms. In the latter, PPC indicates payment based on click-throughs (number of people who click on your advertisement), while CPC measures cost on a per-click basis. Advertisers are charged only when the advertisements are clicked on.

Q9. What’s Cost Per Metric or CPM?

Instead of paying per click, a CPM campaign allows you to purchase a set amount of impressions, usually calculated at a fixed cost per thousand impressions. An impression is a single instance of an advertisement appearing on a Search Engine results page.

Q10. How do I know if my SEM campaign is effective?

PurpleClick will monitor your account and provide campaign statistics such as click-through rates (CTRS). We can even put together a report at the end of the campaign to outline the costs related to your campaign, together with recommendations on how you should structure your next SEM campaign.

Yahoo! Paid Inclusion

Q1. What is Yahoo! Paid Inclusion?

It is a program where approved URLs are submitted in the Yahoo! Search Results area as well as search results area of Yahoo! advertising partners. URLs using this service will be crawled and refreshed more frequently on a weekly basis, thus these web content will be captured and updated by the search engine more regularly.

Q2. Isn’t it free to appear in the Yahoo! Search Results? Why must I pay for it?

Yes. The majority of the Yahoo! Web Results area is comprised of listings that are obtained from the Natural (free) Crawl. However, there are no guarantees if or when your website may be crawled.

Q3. What are the benefits of using Paid Inclusion over the natural crawl listings?

The URLS that are subscribed will be re-crawled weekly. We cannot make the same claim for the natural crawl, as there are no guarantee regarding the timeliness or comprehensiveness of the natural crawl. If you have web pages that need to be refreshed often, then this service has a significant benefit.

Q4. What is the difference between Paid Inclusion and Search Engine Marketing?

Paid Inclusion is a unique service that compliments our Yahoo! search services. Your approved URLs are submitted to appear in the Yahoo! Web Results area as well as the search results area of Yahoo! advertising partners.

Q5. Where will the search results and links be displayed?

The Paid Inclusion results are displayed within the Yahoo! Web Results area (organic result), just below the Sponsored Search Results.

Q6. How many URLs can I submit?

You can submit up to 5 URLs per domain into the program.

Q7. Does Yahoo! crawler crawl the entire site?

Only the subscribed URL is crawled and refreshed weekly. The rest of your website may be crawled by our natural crawler on a periodic basis.

Paid inclusion is charged on an annual basis. Contact our sales professional for a quote.
